Society Registration
A membership body under the Societies Registration Act.
A society is a membership organisation governed by a general body and a managing committee, which makes it the natural form for an association, a club, a school or a professional body.
It needs at least seven members for state registration and members from seven different states for all-India registration. The memorandum sets out the objects and the rules govern how it runs.
Governance is more democratic than a trust's and correspondingly more work: general body meetings, elections and an annual list of the managing committee filed with the registrar.

How many members does a society need?
Seven, minimum, for registration in a state. For an all-India society the seven must be from seven different states. Members can be individuals or, in most states, registered entities.
