GST LUT Filing

Export without paying IGST and waiting for the refund.

An exporter has two options: pay IGST and claim a refund, or furnish a Letter of Undertaking and export without paying. The second is almost always better — the first ties up working capital for as long as the refund takes.

The LUT is filed in Form RFD-11 and runs for one financial year. It has to be renewed at the start of each new one, and exporting after it lapses means falling back to the pay-and-claim route.

It is available to any registered exporter who has not been prosecuted for evasion above ₹250 lakh.

Questions

How long is a GST LUT valid?

One financial year. It must be renewed at the start of each new year, and exports made after it lapses have to be made on payment of IGST with a refund claimed afterwards.
