Expedited Trademark Registration

Examination in weeks rather than months.

The ordinary examination queue runs several months. Expedited processing under Rule 34 moves the application to the front of it, and the registry aims to examine within three months.

It expedites examination, hearing and publication — it does not shorten the four-month opposition period after publication, so the total to registration still runs to roughly six to nine months if unopposed.

It is worth the extra fee where a funding round, a marketplace listing or a licensing deal depends on the registration.

Questions

Is expedited trademark registration worth the extra fee?

Where a deadline depends on it — a funding round, a marketplace that requires a registered mark, a licensing agreement. It roughly halves the time to registration. If nothing turns on the date, the ordinary route reaches the same place.
