Fire Safety NOC
Required before occupying most commercial premises.
A fire NOC is issued by the state fire service and is required for hospitals, hotels, schools, malls, high-rise buildings and most industrial premises. It is a precondition for the occupancy certificate, and often for a trade licence and an FSSAI licence too.
It runs in two stages: a provisional NOC granted on the building plans before construction, and the final NOC after inspection of the installed fire-fighting systems.
Renewal is annual in most states, and an expired NOC invalidates insurance cover in the event of a claim — which is usually the more expensive consequence.
