ICEGATE is the customs department's electronic gateway. Registration gives an importer or exporter direct access to file bills of entry and shipping bills, pay duty online, and track IGST refunds on exports.
It also carries the e-Sanchit facility for uploading supporting documents digitally, which removes the paper set that used to travel with every consignment.

Do I need ICEGATE if I use a customs broker?
Not strictly — a broker files on your behalf. It is still worth having, because it is where you track your own IGST export refunds and see the status of a consignment without asking anyone.
