IEC Modification & Annual Update

Update it every April, or it is deactivated.

Since 2021 every IEC has to be electronically confirmed between April and June each year, even when nothing has changed. An IEC that is not updated is deactivated, and the holder discovers it when a consignment is held at customs.

Modifications — a change of address, bank account, directors or the nature of the business — are filed on the DGFT portal against the digital signature or Aadhaar of the signatory.

What is included

  • Annual update filed in the April window
  • Modification of address, bank or directors
  • Reactivation of a deactivated IEC
  • Updated IEC certificate

What we need from you

  • Existing IEC certificate
  • Proof supporting the change
  • Cancelled cheque for a bank change
  • DSC or Aadhaar of the signatory

Questions

What happens if I do not update my IEC annually?

It is deactivated. Customs will not clear consignments against a deactivated IEC and banks will not process the foreign remittance. It can be reactivated by filing the pending update, but not before the shipment is already stuck.
