LEI Code Registration

Required for large-value transactions and borrowings.

The LEI is a twenty-character global identifier the RBI now requires for a range of transactions: borrowings above ₹5 crore, large-value RTGS and NEFT payments, and participation in non-derivative markets.

It is issued in India by Legal Entity Identifier India Limited and must be renewed annually. A lapsed LEI shows as "lapsed" in the global database, and banks treat that as no LEI at all.
